The project ”Losungen” is an auto – generative poster series produced by Bernd A. Hartwig, where he has let a random generator pick quotations from international internet platforms. The tradition of the “Losungen” can be traced back to the German pietism of the 18th Century, when quotes and mottos from the bible were drawn to give guidance for the day, the year or for a specific occasion. For this exhibition, these texts have been enlarged into a pre-set standard layout posters in size A0.
The other project exposed in the exhibition is Kai Kullen’s ”1000 Type Faces” – a series of posters and a catalogue showing the graphical expressions of emoticons (textual portrayals of a writer’s mood or facial expression in the form of an icon) in relation to the individual character of 100 different font families.
”In the catalogue, you will find 100 smiling emoticons in 100 fonts and font families, turned by 90°. One hundred type faces look at you, smile at you, maybe even with you. Look into their eyes and you will see that none is like the other, looks like the other. Maybe their facial expressions tell you something about typefaces – maybe it tells you something about the character of the font family. Each font has its own style, its own expression – even when smiling.” Exhibition title: ”Losungen” and ”1000 Typefaces” 23/8 – 7/9 2012.
